Irrfan Khan, the versatile, Padma Shri-winning actor is currently busy promoting his upcoming film 'Madaari'. In a conversation with Raipur Times, the actor spoke to us about the film and how he loves to explore the romantic genre on screen.
What is Madaari about and what is your character like? It's based on a real incident where the lives of numerous people were lost.
It is the story of father and a son. I play a character who feels that the system has collapsed completely and there is need for reform. My character is not based on any individual, nor is the film an attack on my one political ideology. The film is a thriller with a very powerful subject.
You have ventured into production with this film...I wanted to involve myself in the film more than just as an actor. The strong storyline led me to take a step beyond acting. I look at producing films that will serve the audience with a fresh subject and also something that projects my vision of storytelling.
You have a romantic comedy coming up, with Pakistani actress Saba Qamar. Is that a genre you would like to explore?Yes. There is a part of me that wants to explore romance and I look forward to exploring the romantic genre which I didn't get to do earlier. I love to do romantic roles, but I need to get a script to convince me to take up romance on screen. Somehow I cannot fake myself in romance, and I believe it will come to me naturally depending upon the script.
What was it like voicing Baloo in Hollywood's recent adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's book?(Smiles) My son, Ayan, was most excited with this and he was actually my source of inspiration for taking it up. It was an amazing experience to be part of a children's film and Ayan was super excited about it. I traveled down memory lane while dubbing for the film.
You will be sharing screen space with Tom Hanks in Inferno. What was it like working with him?Obviously working with him has been a great experience. More than being a great actor, he is also a great human being. He is the kind of person who is flexible enough to mould himself on the image of any character.
